Orthotics
What are orthotics?
Orthotics devices are scientifically proven to help with foot and lower limb pain by supporting and correcting your posture and lower limb alignment. This then decreases certain tissue stresses and improves foot and lower limb function. It is important you understand how they work and the purpose of the orthotics so you can understand the treatment plan and expected outcome.
There are several types of orthotics and are made up of different materials depending on your activity levels and pathology.
Orthotics can be used for the treatment of:
- Heel and arch pain
- Sore feet
- Plantar fasciitis
- Ankle, knee and hip joint pain.
- Persistent corns and callus
Types of orthotics we offer:
Custom foot orthoses - These are made specifically for your feet as everyone's structure and biomechanics of their feet and legs are unique. Therefore, custom orthotics provide the most appropriate amount of support and correction. After conducting a gait analysis and thorough biomechanical assessments, a plaster mould of your feet is taken capturing your feet in a neutral position.
Semi-custom foot orthoses - A tracing of your foot is done upon completion of a thorough biomechanical assessment and gait analysis. The tracing and results from the assessments used to add a prescription to the orthoses. We cannot alter this orthotics too much as they are not custom to your feet.
Prefabricated orthotics: - These are prefabricated to fit all shoes; however we have no control to the amount of correction, material and they are not custom to your foot shape. These are available on the day, and we will provide you with the most suitable off the shelf orthotic on the day for the best result possible.
